Abstract
A fifth of Sweden's current housings were built during the Million Programme (1965 - 1974). A substantional amount of these houses are in a great need of renovation, and furthermore, these houses do not have the same energy performance that modern houses have. As a part of decreasing the building sector's carbon emissions, reaching the climate targets and at the same time utilize already existing buildings and thus avoid the big accumulated emissions of new production, it's of great importance that these buildings are renovated, and especially that they are well renovated. The purpose of this study was therefore to examine a potentially effective renovation method for these common dwelling houses; how the energy efficiency and the thermal... (More)

The purpose of this study was therefore to examine a potentially effective renovation method for these common dwelling houses; how the energy efficiency and the thermal climate in the houses was affected. To do so, energy usage from theoretical energy models from IDA-ICE were compared with measured values, and air tightness tests, as well as thermography tests were made to evaluate the parameters. Furthermore, a survey was sent to the house residents, where the respondents gave an indication about how the renovation was experienced and how the thermal climate affected the residents. The results of the study revealed that the thermal climate was generally enhanced and that the residents experienced the renovation somehow bothersome, though most were satisfied and thought that the area as a whole had improved. The results also showed that the energy efficiency of the houses was improved with 25 – 29 %, depending on if the measured or the simulated result was used. The results also indicated that the renovation method inherently is applicable on most apartment buildings from the Million Programme, due to the building frame's formation. (Less)
