Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

Abstract
The connections between economic conditions and mental health have fascinated scholars within the social sciences for a long time. Observational studies have been able to prove that social class has a gradient effect on mental health on a group level. The connections have not had the same amount of recognition within the psychology field. This study aims to examine six psychologists experience with the connection between social class and mental health and its influence on psychological care. The psychologists experience with the amount of focus the connection was given during their education and working life is also a point of interest. This study aims to examine six psychologists experience with the connection between social class and mental health and its influence on psychological care. The psychologists experience with the amount of focus the connection was given during their education and working life is also a point of interest. The results from the semi-structured interviews show that the psychologists find the connection between social class and mental health useful in the treatment of their clients and therefore for their work as therapists. Especially in regards to the therapeutic alliance. The results from the study differs from other qualitative work in regards to the psychologist’s unwillingness to address the topic with their clients in an explicit manner. The amount of focus and attention the connection was given during their education is low. The field of psychology’s leaning to the natural sciences and psychologists socioeconomic background on a group level are two reasonable explanations for the lack of awareness of social class in psychology. The participants of the study express an urgent need for more discussions on the topic, which encourages more focus on this topic - both in a scientific and an educational sense. (Less)
