Abstract
The aim of this thesis is to examine the difference in expression of affective polarization in opinion pieces between traditional media and new media. Specifically through studying articles and posts made by elite actors as through parliament commissioners in the Swedish parliament. The aim of this thesis is to examine the difference in expression of affective polarization in opinion pieces between traditional media and new media. This is studied through the political field of immigration as it is a central field in the political dimension of cultural value. This is a political dimension where the literature has made reports of both conflict and fragmentation. This applies both within the right as well as the left. For the basis of my analysis and the theoretical framework I use theories of affective polarization and the democracy theory of enlightened understanding. This is constructed by using a qualitative text analysis method where articles from Dagens Nyheter debate site and posts from the plattform X are studied and used as the empirical material. Through the study I find that the greatest differences were not to be found between the different types of media,
but in which party the commissioners were affiliated with. Members who are a part of the Swedish Democratic party were found to be expressing affective polarization in both traditional media and in new media. (Less)
