MFS - Multifunctional space for future submarine

Lönn, Ebba LU (2024) IDEL01 20241
Industrial Design
Abstract
This bachelor thesis is a collaborative effort with Saab Kockums AB, focusing on designing a space in a future submarine equipped with multifunctional innovations to optimize the limited space available. The methodology employed follows a classical design approach, encompassing research, ideation, conceptualization, validation, finalization, and evaluation stages. Additionally, the project includes a field trip to the Marinmuseum in Karlskrona to explore the submarine “Neptun,” a creation of Saab Kockums.
The outcome of the project is a multifunctional space designed to serve as an office, a Role-1 health care unit compliant with NATO standards, as well as for meetings and recreation. The concept emphasizes efficient space utilization... (More)

The outcome of the project is a multifunctional space designed to serve as an office, a Role-1 health care unit compliant with NATO standards, as well as for meetings and recreation. The concept emphasizes efficient space utilization through the integration of various foldable mechanisms, facilitating seamless transitions between the four designated functions. The final design is presented through sketches, renders, and a scale model, showcasing the innovative solutions developed. (Less)
