Purpose: To compare performance management between two different private organisational structures in primary care. The purpose is to compare a private chain with a private cooperative, and to analyse why it appears as it does.

Methodology: It is a qualitative comparative study between the two different organisations. The study has an inductive approach. In-depth interviews have been conducted with four PCC Managers from each organisation.

Theoretical perspectives: Institutional Theory, Management Control Systems Result: The two organisations have some different measures, but overall very similar performance management. Furthermore, the similar design of performance management can be explained by institutional theory's isomorphisms. Employee considerations, lack of technologically advanced tools, and the importance of context and internal fit when evaluating governance and management are three identified themes.

Conclusions: There are certain differences in which specific areas of performance measurements the organisations prioritise. However, generally, they are very similar. Institutional theory and the three identified themes can explain the results. The study contributes to the research, as these two different ownership structures in primary care have not been compared previously. (Less)
