Abstract (Swedish)

(Less)
Abstract
As a musician, I define myself as a performer of "Nordic jazz", but there is very little information about what this term means. Therefore, this study aims to find out how musicians within the genre view the concept and put their perceptions in relation to my own analyses of musical examples, as well as how these musicians think I can develop my personal Nordic jazz sound. The method is qualitative with a targeted- and snowball sampling and was done with interviews and music analysis. The study shows that the most prominent character traits described by the jazz musicians are an awareness and priority of sound and timbre, an atmosphere and capturing emotions and moods in the music. The study shows that the most prominent character traits described by the jazz musicians are an awareness and priority of sound and timbre, an atmosphere and capturing emotions and moods in the music. Nordic jazz is often inspired by folk music with a more minimalist approach to harmony than in American jazz, melodic, lyrical and airy. In order to be able to develop your own sound, the study also shows the importance of working with the exclusion of musical elements, input and output in your creative process and avoiding your technical reflex and thereby becoming more free in your playing. The study is presented as a lecture recital. (Less)
