- Abstract
- Since August 2021 Swedish social services have had a special responsibility to work for perpetrators of violence to change their behavior, but little research has examined aspiring social workers’ interest in working with the target group. The study was carried out using a ten-question survey that was sent to students from all semesters in the social work program at Lund University. A total of 195 out of 971 social work students answered the survey. The results showed, in contrast to earlier research and theory, that there was no correlation between the students’ knowledge... The results showed, in contrast to earlier research and theory, that there was no correlation between the students’ knowledge about perpetrators of violence and their interest in working with the target group. We also found that regardless of how much or little knowledge the students had about perpetrators of violence, the majority of students did not feel comfortable addressing the target group. We did find a correlation between interest in working with perpetrators of violence and students who had gained knowledge about the target group in other ways than through their education. (Less)
