Abstract
Problematic school absenteeism among students attending compulsory or upper-level lower secondary school has come to increase dramatically in recent years. This study aims to get an overview of the cooperation between organizations regarding professional work with the target group, and survey possible important factors during the development of problematic school absenteeism. Problematic school absenteeism among students attending compulsory or upper-level lower secondary school has come to increase dramatically in recent years. This study aims to get an overview of the cooperation between organizations regarding professional work with the target group, and survey possible important factors during the development of problematic school absenteeism. We used a qualitative method and organized six semistructured interviews with professionals working towards upper-level lower secondary school. To summarize it can be said that a combination of psychosocial, individual, and organizational factors are to be considered as underlying causes regarding the development of problematic school absenteeism. Therefore, individual adaptation and flexibility are important when working with these youths to bring them back to the school environment. Further, the study shows that the secrecy between concerned organizations has a big impact on interprofessional cooperation since it tends to slow down the working process and collective contributions towards the target group.
