The themes are listening, information and planning, and analysis were based on Honneths (2003) three forms of recognition. Through these three themes, it is shown that all six social workers aim to use some form of recognition. We observed a few common ways of recognition. For example, by actively listening, asking questions that are phrased in a way to reduce the shame that the clients might feel about their situation, and planning the meeting in a way that enhances the clients’ comfort. However, this study cannot conclude whether the clients have felt recognized during the first meeting, the study can only describe the professionals' use of recognition. (Less)
