Inspired by narrative methodology, this study analyzes six selected picture books written by Swedish authors. The findings reveal that the characters predominantly exhibit negative traits, with the main narrative emphasizing symptomatic characteristics inherent in individuals with ADHD. These traits are problematised by their surroundings when expressed in social interactions, resulting in the characters undergoing societal discipline to conform. The conclusion highlights the discrepancy between idealized endings and the complex reality of living with ADHD. The social worker's ability to adopt an insider perspective and understand the child's experiences is thereby crucial for identifying significant aspects of the child's life situation. This understanding enables ethically considered assessments and the development of effective strategies by highlighting and reflecting on various narratives and social processes. (Less)
