Abstract
This study aims to examine how young adults’ attitudes regarding intimate personal violence differ between the two genders, female and male. The theoretical framework for this study is Hirdman’s genus theory, which explains how the two genders female and male are perceived and the obligations and rights the two genders have due to the interaction between them.

In total, 196 respondents participated in the online survey, whereas 166 respondents were in the ages of 18–29. The conclusion that can be made based on the results is that there are gender differences among the attitudes regarding intimate personal violence, among young adults. The differences between the attitudes depend on which form of physical and mental violence is performed by the perpetrator. Furthermore, the result shows that it is more accepted that a woman uses physical violence against her partner, compared to a male. Finally, we can conclude that young adults have a negative attitude toward intimate personal violence and that there are gender differences between the attitudes in certain aspects. (Less)
