- Abstract
- This study delves into the healing experiences of some Swedish citizens aged 65 and above following the loss of a loved one. Employing a qualitative approach, six interviews were transcribed and analyzed through Reflexive Thematic Analysis. The identified themes include Exploration of the Pre-loss Phase, Intrinsic Factors, External Factors, Progression Towards Acceptance, Embracing the Present Moment, and The Existential Dimension.

The identified themes include Exploration of the Pre-loss Phase, Intrinsic Factors, External Factors, Progression Towards Acceptance, Embracing the Present Moment, and The Existential Dimension.
The study highlights that building lifelong resilience is integral to the participants' healing journey, suggesting that the healing process initiates well before the loss occurs. Creating conditions that act preventive and protective against life's challenges emerged as a central aspect. While complete preparation for bereavement is impossible, an early-started healing process establishes a robust foundation.
The study emphasizes the participants' need to create new mental and physical spaces post-bereavement to make sense of the change and adapt to the new reality. The disappearance of a significant aspect necessitates the formation of something new, underscoring the importance of exploring uncharted (mental and physical) rooms.
Focusing on the personal and subjective dimensions of the healing process post-loss, this study provides a profound understanding of individuals' intricate navigation through the healing process. It offers insights into the emotional nuances and personal experiences, contributing to a deeper comprehension of the phenomenon. (Less)
