Abstract
The adoption of virtual meeting platforms significantly increased during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, which was caused by the need for effective remote collaboration and communication tools. As a result of advancements in technology, virtual meeting platforms transformed their integral components into more than just video conferencing tools. A notable example is the integration of speech-to-text technology which is driven by advancements in artificial intelligence and natural language processing. Speech-to-text can transcribe spoken words into text for various organisational uses and this usage scenario formed the basis for this study. Our empirical study critically analyses the impact of speech-to-text technology on organisational... (More)
The adoption of virtual meeting platforms significantly increased during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, which was caused by the need for effective remote collaboration and communication tools. Our empirical study critically analyses the impact of speech-to-text technology on organisational productivity and user experiences. We made use of an inductive approach to explore this and our findings indicate that speech-to-text technology can enhance productivity, inclusivity and operational efficiency in organisations. However, challenges such as training, privacy concerns, inaccuracies, regulations and technological restrictions need to be addressed. Future research should also focus on quantitative measures of speech-to-text technology’s impact on productivity, its longitudinal effects and AI advancements to improve accuracy and functionality.
