Abstract
This study examines how children, adolescents or young adults develop the ability to resonate in relation to music. The study has its starting point in Hartmut Rosa's resonance theory, which asserts that man and his surrounding world can resonate with each other if the conditions are right.
Previous research concerns relational pedagogy, research around strong musical experiences and factors that are important for children and young people to take an interest in the subject of music. Previous research based on the resonance theory and how children, adolescents or young adults either develop or find it more difficult to experience resonance is also described. The theory section of the essay describes critical theory and then goes on to... (More)
This study examines how children, adolescents or young adults develop the ability to resonate in relation to music.
The theory section of the essay describes critical theory and then goes on to describe the resonance theory and important concepts connected to it such as alienation, controllability and social acceleration.
Methodologically, the study is an interview study where semi-structured interviews have been used. Six informants who study music at either a residential college for adult education or a music college have been interviewed and their answers have then been analysed thematically based on the study's research question. In the results section are the informants' answers then presented in nine different themes that have emerged during the analysis of the interviews.
In the discussion of results the study's theory and previous research are linked together with what was presented in the results section. Factors such as environment, comfortability, identity, playing music with others and an identity linked to music are highlighted as relevant factors based on the research question. Music as a qualitative relationship to the world and the function of music in modernity are also discussed. The discussion chapter then concludes with implications regarding music pedagogy and the author's thoughts about further research on the subject. (Less)
Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
