Abstract
U.S. course literature and international research that appears at the psychotherapy program's fam. It is not uncommon for the discipline to emphasize the importance of the clients' religious beliefs and that this is brought up during therapeutic sessions with couples. The correspondence in Swedish course literature and practice was not perceived to be found, which is why it has felt meaningful to investigate how it is talked about in Swedish family counselling.
The purpose of the present study has been to illustrate family counselors' thoughts and feelings about having conversations with couples, where one or both are religiously practicing and to gain insight into the extent to which the subject occurs in the family counselors' sessions... (More)

The purpose of the present study has been to illustrate family counselors' thoughts and feelings about having conversations with couples, where one or both are religiously practicing and to gain insight into the extent to which the subject occurs in the family counselors' sessions and how it is talked about when it is brought up. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach and the empirical data was analyzed thematically. The results show that the subject occupies a small space during the sessions and that the family counselors do not ask questions about the subject without reason. There was a varying openness to talking about the subject. None of the respondents examined or connected the clients' image of God with their attachment patterns. On the other hand, the religious faith could be perceived as a source of resilience by some of the informants. When the subject is mentioned, it is usually the social consequences of faith that are highlighted. The present study shows that it is possible to include clients' religious beliefs in the context of family counseling with believing couples in the sessions.
