Abstract
Plato’s Concept of God – A Semasiological Analysis

The philosopher Plato lived and worked in ancient Greece, a religious society where a popular tradition of polytheism was prevalent. In relation to a cultural context of the famous myths about the gods of Homer and Hesiodos, Plato developed another, more complex concept of god. In his writings different views on the gods are being voiced, and ultimately something very different from popular tradition – an aspiration for an elevated, more ethical view of the divine.
