(2024) HISK37 20231History
- Abstract
- From beach, sun and sex to death, disaster and misery - A study about the use of history within Dark Tourism.
Sites that have witnessed some of history’s most horrific events have become major tourist attractions, visited by millions of people. This phenomenon has been popularized under the term 'Dark Tourism.' But how is the dark heritage of these places actually treated? How do the stakeholders of these locations choose to use, or not use, their tragic history in order to sell tickets? This study examines the use of history within Dark Tourism, with a primary focus on how the past is handled in Hiroshima and Chernobyl - Abstract (Swedish)
