Abstract
Urbanization has led to significant infrastructural challenges, particularly in the slum areas of the Global South. Nature-based Solutions (NbS) are emerging as innovative approaches to enhance urban sustainability and resilience. This study investigates the enabling environment for decentralized governance in implementing NbS within urban slums, focusing on case studies in Indonesia and the Philippines. Utilizing a qualitative methodology—the Integrative Propositional Analysis (IPA)—this study conducts a comparative analysis of national policies and programs in these countries to assess the dynamic among decentralized governance and integration of NbS in slum management. Results from the study showed despite challenges and limitations,... (More)

Results from the study showed despite challenges and limitations, the interconnected and interactive dynamics among slum challenges, slum management strategies, decentralized governance, and NbS suggest positive potential for integrating NbS in slum management. These findings offer valuable insights and policy implications for other nations facing similar urban challenges in the Global South, suggesting strategies for mainstreaming NbS through decentralized governance mechanisms.
