- Abstract (Swedish)
(More)

- This study investigates the relationship between the variables work demands,
organizational culture and social support, on the outcome measure, presenteeism. With the intention of discovering important insights, the study focused on the following parts: quantitative demands, emotional demands, social support from superiors, social support from colleagues, trust and credibility between management and employees and trust and credibility between employees. The aim was to identify key predictors of presenteeism and to shed light on the dynamic relationships between these. A quantitative method was used and data was collected through a questionnaire (N=69) at Elis Textilservice AB. The data was then analyzed with descriptive statistics,... The aim was to identify key predictors of presenteeism and to shed light on the dynamic relationships between these. A quantitative method was used and data was collected through a questionnaire (N=69) at Elis Textilservice AB. The data was then analyzed with descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and multiple linear regression. The result showed that social support from immediate supervisors was significantly related to lower levels of presenteeism. Furthermore, did the dimension ‘trust between colleagues’ also show a significant positive relationship with presenteeism, indicating that high trust between employees can lead to them
working despite illness. The practical implications of the results highlight the need to establish clear guidelines and foster an organizational culture that prioritizes health and recovery, while also addressing and reducing any stigma associated with absenteeism. These results contribute valuable insights to the expanding research in the field for this phenomenon, as well as for Elis Textilservice AB in their development work. Future research is encouraged to further explore these relationships in larger and more diverse groups to gain a deeper understanding of the long-term effects and the underlying factors influencing the propensity for presenteeism.
