- Abstract
- The ’green’ energy transition has contributed to a polarized debate, where wind power is seen as part of the solution to achieve the climate target, while at the same time being problematized partly based on its aesthetic impact on the landscape. The purpose of this study is to investigate how the aesthetic dimensions of the Åby-Alebo wind farm can be understood based on Böhme’s theory of ’The Aesthetics of Atmospheres’; from a production aesthetic viewpoint (the actor) and a perception aesthetic viewpoint (local residents). Data was collected through semi-structured interviews; three representatives of the SR Energy operating the wind farm and three local residents. Through a thematic analysis, the study’s results show that the aesthetic... (More)

Data was collected through semi-structured interviews; three representatives of the SR Energy operating the wind farm and three local residents. Through a thematic analysis, the study’s results show that the aesthetic dimensions from a production aesthetic viewpoint and a perception aesthetic viewpoint can be described as ’industrial’. From a production aesthetic viewpoint, the wind farm is seen partly as a symbol of the ’green' transition, but also as ’greenwashing'. From a perception aesthetic viewpoint, the wind farm is described as ’industrial’, like ’science fiction', creating a sense of inaccessibility in the landscape. Given the time frame and limited empirical material, the study's results cannot be generalized, although the research area needs more attention. (Less)
