Abstract
This dissertation will analyse three books. They are, in chronological order, La Colmena, by Camilio José Cela (1951), Historias de Kronen, by José Ángel Mañas (1994), and Amor, curiosidad, prozac, y dudas, by Lucía Etxebarría (1997). Etxebarría's book will be discussed before Mañas', since there are so many parallels between Amor... and La Colmena. Even though more than 40 years have passed since the publication of the first novel and the last two, they resemble each other to varying degrees. This will be evidenced in the course of this research project. A mainly linguistic analysis of the three books will be carried out, focusing on the vocabulary in each. More specifically, the language of certain characters will be analysed, and words... (More)

This will be evidenced in the course of this research project. A mainly linguistic analysis of the three books will be carried out, focusing on the vocabulary in each. More specifically, the language of certain characters will be analysed, and words will be identified for their social, or “slang” value. In the analysis of these more striking words, several dictionaries will be consulted relating to slang and erotic words (mainly RAE as an authority that accepts/includes or rejects words or expressions). Finally, it is interesting to ask whether the characters, all with a particular jargon or way of speaking, are a product of their socio-political environment? This will be glimpsed throughout the thesis – without it having to be explained in great detail. (Less)
