Abstract (Swedish)

(More)

Abstract
This thesis focuses on implementation and testing of automation applications within the decentralized and modular system Vario-X, developed by Murrelektronik AB. Vario-X is an automation platform created to bring all components together directly at the core of a machine, which in turn removes the need for cabinets and reduces complex cable routing. The platform is modular, energy efficient and offers flexibility, which enables customizing the system after different industrial needs.

The goal was to develop a demonstrational equipment which demonstrates the capabilities of the system, for potential customers and users. The thesis began by studying the systems I/O components, with focus on their functionality and programming. The purpose... (More)

The purpose was to understand how these components can be used and which of them are the most appropriate to include in the project.

The practical parts of the thesis include assembly where different modules and components were integrated and configured to work like a unified automation solution.

After implementing the automation solution, an evaluation of the concept of decentralized automation followed in the form of a literature review. The review examined the benefits and drawbacks of the concept but also the reliability and energy efficiency based on existing studies.

The report also brings forward the challenges that occurred during the project, including programming and communication between the components. By solving these challenges a successful demonstration of the Vario-X system as a flexible and efficient solution for modern industrial automation that in turn contributes to Murrelektronik ABs ability to market their innovative platform.
