This thesis explores the conditions and factors necessary for achieving sustainability and generating long term effects from collaborative projects in the public sector. Accordingly, this paper will examine a pilot crime prevention project in Lund municipality and investigate its conditions and resources to attain sustainable organizational structures. The paper is conducted in collaboration with Lund municipality in order to enhance their organizational structures. The method has been a qualitative case study approach, where eight semi-structured interviews were carried out with seven municipalities employees and one police officer. The theory and interviews were based on Brulin and Svensson´s (2011) three crucial aspects for achieving sustainable projects; active ownership, collaboration and development-oriented learning. Overall, the project shows signs of sustainable working methods, despite organizational boundaries, in terms of functional cooperation and on-going learning structures, but could benefit from a pronounced mediator and a more involved project management to bring these structures further.
This paper contributes to the field of social science in highlithing key factors to accomplish sustainable projects in the public sector and at the same time it underlines challenges that collaborating public authorities can encounter while working together. (Less)
