The focus is on the challenges they encounter related to language, ethics, legal regulations, and interactions with other professional groups. Using a qualitative approach, the study is based on focus group interviews and analyzed through the lens of professional theory. The findings suggest that a clear understanding of one’s role and mandate is crucial for experiencing professional autonomy. The way medical social workers articulate themselves in medical records emerges as both an ethical consideration and a strategy for creating professional discretion. Furthermore, the results highlight the importance of a shared professional language to clarify the role and assert the profession within interdisciplinary healthcare settings. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexity of documentation in social work within medical contexts. (Less)
