Abstract (Swedish)
This disquisition explores the possibilities to install a battery storage situated in a gasturbineplant to enable a start up of the gasturbine in the case of a powerfailure. Since powerfailures are rare, the battery will mostly and to a large extent be unused, this creates an economic dilemma. Uniper has taken in and recieved a tender which includes and discribes a battery with a larger storage system and its connection to the gasturbine for an upstart, however, the tender lacked information concering the batterys capability and capacity of supplying power to the electrical grid. This is essential to maintain different support services such as FCR-D, FCR-N and to conduct trade with electricity (daytrading). The purpose with this study is... (More)
This disquisition explores the possibilities to install a battery storage situated in a gasturbineplant to enable a start up of the gasturbine in the case of a powerfailure. The purpose with this study is therefore to examine if the battery, beyond its function to in connection in case
of a power failure, also can be used to generate an income through the above mentioned services.
The study analyses how the distribution to FCR-D (up and down), FCR-N and daytrading has varied during the period from 2022 to 2025 and how this usage of the battery has effected its State och Health (SoH). When analysing the plants circuit diagram the fact emerged that one transformer has to be replaced to enable an output from the battery to the electrical grid.
An investment calculation of the was created to estimate the period of repayment of the investment when using the different support services.
The method is based on interviews with other relevant suppliers, simulations and economical calculations to determine a profitabilibty. The study is mainly based on information recieved from Uniper and supplymentary litterature.
The results recieved from the simulations displays that the FCR-D services have a relatively limited impact on the batterys State of Health (SoH) while the daytrading, which is a deeper and more frekvent cycling of the battery leads to a more rapid deterioration of the battery's State of Health (SoH). Furthermore one can find that the economical analysis exhibits that FCR-D (upp och ner) together with FCR-N generates a higher profitability than daytrading.
The conclution of this makes these support services more profitable in an economic
perspective as well as in a sustainable perspective. In the case of the years analysed in this study the transformer will be paid of fairy quickly however the decending dividend, when support services are involved, appears uncertain. (Less)
