(More) - Forskningsfrågor

Teoretiska perspektiv
(Less) - Abstract

How do the employees describe the company’s identity? (and) How do they perceive the way it is controlled?
Purpose of study
The purpose is to contribute to the understanding of identity as a form of control. More specifically, how identity regulation occurs dynamically through the influence of both employees and managers.

Purpose of study
The purpose is to contribute to the understanding of identity as a form of control. More specifically, how identity regulation occurs dynamically through the influence of both employees and managers.
Methodology
The study is based on seven semi-structured, qualitative interviews with employees from a small Nordic company. The study follows an abductive approach.
Theoretical perspectives
The theoretical foundation of this study is based on a literature review addressing normative control and its various branches, with a particular focus on identity as a form of control and the dynamic perspective between leaders and followers. This perspective is then applied to identity regulation as a mode of normative control.
Result
The analysis with the following discussion indicates that in small organizations, employees can act as co-creators of the collective identity and also participate in the control process through identity regulation at the group level.
Conclusions
The conclusion of the study is that it contributes to a broader and more nuanced understanding of identity as a form of control, with particular emphasis on employees' active role in a dynamic process. (Less)
