Resultat: Tre resultat; a.
(Less)

Research question: How can normative and bureaucratic control interact in a growing organization to establish a balance between structure and cultural commitment, and what are the potential challenges in this interaction?
Purpose: The purpose of the study is to investigate and contribute to a better understanding of the coexistence and interaction of controls - specifically how respondents perceive and argue for their controls, and how these interact in relation to an organizational goal such as growth.
Method: A qualitative research strategy has been applied with semi-structured interviews in a company, in the form of a case study. The case study has been done on a Swedish travel company that has been assigned the name Skepp-o'Skoj AB.
Theoretical perspectives: The theoretical base from which the study has been founded is bureaucratic and normative control, as well as elements of neo-normative control and brand culture.
Results: Three findings; a. Forms of control are interdependent and used to reinforce each other. Bureaucratic control is introduced to enable normative control on a growing scale. b. Theoretically expected advantages and disadvantages of different forms of control also occur here, but opposite effects can also occur if one form of control is not supported by another form of control in a way that is suitable for the organizational context. c. A discrepancy between practice and perception can arise among respondents when different organizational goals are perceived as conflicting, and thus language can be used to deal with this situation.
Conclusion: Organizational control theories in the past have often treated forms of control as acting in a vacuum or that they may express some similarities with each other, and that they have evolved as being a 'counter' to a previous organizational trend. However, this study has explored the coexistence and interaction of control forms on the assumption that controls do not exist in a vacuum. Here, in a particular context where the organization has set specific goals, the study has shown how respondents perceive and argue for their control choices against these. Through the contradictory and paradoxical challenges discovered in the empirical data, it has been possible to further nuance the interaction of control forms. (Less)
