In contrast, standalone digital cameras provide intentionality and superior control, but their complexity deters casual users. Motivated by a desire to reclaim photography as a focused, deliberate experience, this project reimagines the digital camera through the lens of industrial design. The result is Sony Iris—a fully functional, self-contained camera that blends intuitive usability with a simplified, tactile user interface. The design process involved comprehensive research, reverse engineering of existing hardware, and extensive prototyping using both digital and physical methods. Sony Iris aims to inspire a renewed connection with the act of photographing, emphasizing presence, intentionality, and emotional engagement with the moment being captured. (Less)
