Methodology: For this study, a qualitative research method with six semi structured interviews was made. The participants were chosen through a purposeful sampling to find founders behind Swedish startups who has established their operations in Lisbon
Empirical findings: The findings show that Swedish startups experience challenges with the bureaucratic system and the different business climate compared to Sweden. While a friendly population and access to a bigger EU market serves as opportunities
Conclusions: This research reveals evidence that the most important part for startups settling in Lisbon is the access to a broad network with personal contacts. While formal support systems are not as beneficial as one might believe. The business climate in Lisbon fosters an entrepreneurial mindset in a complex institutional setting. (Less)
