Abstract (Swedish)
(Less)
Abstract
This study examined the relationship between the use of generative AI (GAI), autonomy, competence, relatedness, and attitudes toward GAI. The purpose of the study was to understand how motivation in work and studies is related to the use of GAI using Self-Determination Theory. This study’s research question was therefore: How are perceived autonomy, competence, and relatedness associated with the use of and attitudes toward GAI? To answer this, a survey was distributed to a convenience sample. The survey consisted of four parts and a total of 27 questions that addressed the three psychological needs, the use of GAI and attitudes toward GAI. The results indicated that neither autonomy, competence, nor relatedness was associated with the use... (More)

The survey consisted of four parts and a total of 27 questions that addressed the three psychological needs, the use of GAI and attitudes toward GAI. The results indicated that neither autonomy, competence, nor relatedness was associated with the use of GAI. Only a more positive attitude toward GAI was associated with a higher use of GAI, suggesting that individuals with a more frequent use of generative AI are more positively inclined toward it. The insignificant associations between GAI and the three psychological needs deviates from previous research and requires further study for a deeper understanding. (Less)
