Abstract
The aim of this project is to discuss how designers can contribute to gender equality and female empowerment in craft-production industry.
The study was done as a collaboration with the Indian organization Industree to study methods designers can use to assure that the economic/social balance in the value chain is fair.
The organization works with craft-production as a means of generating income amongst poor inhabitants. Their main focus is on female artisans. Women in production industry are marginalized and too often suffer from prejudice and unfair working conditions. Industree is developing an internet-based platform called “Create” where artisans and designers can meet and do business. Through this Industree want to impact 1000 000 people in 10 years. I have tested and evaluated this setup by making a collection together with a producer group in India. (Less)
