- Abstract
- The average build year for existing multi-family buildings in Sweden is1959, circa 95 % of building built before 1960 uses natural ventilation and circa 45 % of these have failed the obligatory ventilation control that exists in Sweden. In the EU buildings stand for 30 % of the total energy usage and the aim is to get buildings to a near zero energy building. The aim of this thesis is therefore to compare the installation of two mechanical ventilation systems, mechanical exhaust ventilation with heat recovery (FX) och mechanical supply and exhaust ventilation with heat recovery (FTX). This thesis uses an existing multi-familybuilding in Malmö as a reference to build multiple simulation models to simulate the energy usage for one year and the indoor climate for one cold winter week. An economic analysis with regard to annual savings and investment cost was also done. The result from the study show that the systems have different advantages. Mechanical exhaust ventilation with heat recovery show greater savings in energy use, is cheaper to install and pays back quicker while mechanical supply and exhaust ventilation with heat recovery gives a more stable indoor climate with better thermal comfort and air quality.
