- This research examines the consequences of disciplinary time, for the workers at Foxconn in China, based on the monograph “Dying for an iPhone” and poetry by former Foxconn worker Xu Lizhi. Grounded in Fouacauldin disciplinary theory, this research will exhibit what the apparatus of discipline looks like at Foxconn. It will focus on how physical and mental pain occurs when capitalism uses time as a tool for discipline to achieve accumulation of capital. Furthermore it examines how the alienation from one's own time, socio-natural time and the time of others arises. It will illuminate the consequences of bodily pain, exhaustion and alienation, based on the 14 Foxconn suicides that took place in Shenzhen, in 2010, and the workers feelings of... (More)
