This was done through an analysis and comparison of wardrobe studies from both periods, with the usage of three terms and theories containing value and price, consumption and sustainability. Our conclusion points towards individuals difficulties to change their consumption habits to be more sustainable, even though they value sustainability highly. This is because individuals have lost control over the production and material they used to possess. With this insight we have concluded that the material owners, specifically the fast fashion companies, could learn from the preindustrial societies ways of material and clothing usage. This could be done by creating clothes built for change and recycling. Further, an increase in price could communicate a change of value to the consumers, which could result in a change of consumption habits. (Less)
