Toward Sustainable Destinations: An analysis of the Danish destination recognition scheme - Destination 21 and the Island of Møn

- The study aims to establish the effectiveness of the Danish destination certification scheme – Destination 21. In order to accomplish this, an analytical framework, based upon current tourism and development theory, was constructed against which the scheme was tested. The analytical framework consists from three analyses examining the schemes framework, substance and applicability. It was found that the scheme has the necessary substance and framework to enable it to be a valuable tool for the promotion and furthering of the sustainable tourism concept.
