- Abstract
- The essay deals with implications for Human Rights development in light of China's rise to power. It discusses the problem from three perspectives, China's Human Rights commitment, the clash between western and Asian values and China's potential influence. It is mainly an overview and discussion of the problems and complexities involved in the development. From these three perspective two opposing scenarios are constructed, the pessimist and the optimist perspectives. The essay then tries to evaluate which are the more likely outcomes from the two perspectives, claiming that a possible development is the shift in focus from first generation of Human Rights (civil and political rights) to the second generation (social and economic rights)....
