Abstract
The main problem that this essay notices is the differences you see in three of the south provinces in north of Sweden about how they seems to have get strucked by the middle age crises. The three provinces I compare are Jämtland, Hälsingland and Medelpad. This study deals about how the research has been done in these different areas so far, what summaries that have been presented so far and what they are based on. Also the inventory work is part of this examination. In Jämtland there are lots of identified deserted farms (sv. ?ödesböle?) shown both in the landscape and in the written historic sources. In Hälsingland there are neither written sources nor any type of names of villages or farms that's indicates of middle age desertation.... (More)

Concerning Medelpad no one has paid attention to the middle age crises. The works by inventory in these two areas haven?t shown any deserted middle age farms.

The theory for this essay is based on source criticism about how the researchers and inventors came up to the results. The important conclusion tells us how research and inventory works together and are dependent to each other. To simplify - they pretty much confirms each others results. The people working with inventory in fields needs to know what to look for, you need to search for something to find it and if you don?t search for a thing you can?t find it. On the contrary researchers use the field inventories to confirm their results. (Less)
