Abstract
This study was performed to investigate the psychosocial work environment for priests in Malmö and Lund. The purpose of the study was to identify differences in psychosocial work environment for men and women, and to identify most important areas of problem within the psychosocial work environment. To measure the work environment Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire, COPSOQ, was distributed to 78 priests in Malmö and Lund. COPSOQ is a questionnaire that measures 20 dimensions of the psychosocial work environment, for example cognitive demands, social support and feedback. This study was performed to investigate the psychosocial work environment for priests in Malmö and Lund. In the interviews the differences between men and women were not the most significant. Instead the difference between young and old priests and between priests that differs in apprehension of faith, so then between high- and low church, are the major ones. The questionnaire and the interviews were analysed together. The result indicated that the major areas of concern were leadership, the double line of authority, meaning that the leadership of the church is parted between parish council and the vicar, fear of conflicts and different apprehensions of faith and the problem for young and old priests to cooperate based on the differences in education.
