OM ÄLDRE En Grundad teori om tidsperspektivskifte som hanteringsstrategi av livets nedförsbacke efter 65 års ålder

- Abstract
- The theory about the elderly has been formulated based upon the analysis of 14 one-hour interviews with self-sufficient urban pensioners from 67 to 87 years of age. The main goal of this study was to explore the subjective experience of aging and reproduce this experience as a verifiable, Grounded theory. Our theory is compared and linked to the Theories of Gerotranscendence, Mindfulness, Socioemotional Selectivity, and Erikson's Theory of Psychosocial Development. Our resulting experience in working with Grounded theory suggests that it is potentially useful for psychologists in their duties as therapists and researchers. According to our theory, the elderly regard the future pessimistically and deal with this simply by ignoring it. At... (More)

At the same time, they have a tendency to idealize either the past or the present. Idealization of the past coincides with the exhausted elderly, while idealization of the future coincides with the vigorous elderly. Our theory implies that activities designed for the elderly should be focused upon the present in order to be effective. Key words: aging, temporal shift, Grounded theory (Less)
