In our study we used relevant literature and qualitative interviews with people from the social service departments and former drug-abusers. Our conclusions were that social service departments were aware of the riskfactors; the importance of a safe living, meaningful occupation and the meaning of a safe identity. This is in line with what the former drug-abusers say as well as the literature. Our findings also pointed towards the importance of acceptance from society to help the client in his/hers search for a new social identity. Our clients wanted "normal" lives in order to feel participant in society. Most of them felt accepted and meant that their needs were met by the social service departments, families and the fellowship in AA and NA. (Less)
