- Abstract
- My purpose was to illustrate how fathers themselves viewed their right to paternity leave and how this and fatherhood affected their roles as fathers and their roles as men. In order to obtain these facts I asked myself the following questions: How did the fathers view their possibility of paternity leave? Did they experience any limitations to their right? How did the fathers view their roles as fathers after the paternity leave? How did the fathers view their roles as men after the paternity leave? I used the qualitative method by interviewing 6 fathers who had taken at least one month of paternity leave. The one father who took the shortest amount of paternity leave, only 1 month, was the father who felt he could not take the possibility for granted because of his profession. But all of them were, however, pleased with their paternity leave. The fathers experienced the following limitations to their paternity leave: breastfeeding, the age of the child, their financial situation and their own and their partner's profession. (Less)
