- Abstract
- The historical development has created new conditions for women. Today is the woman expected to do good both with her children and at her work. The purpose of this essay was to examine if the woman feel stress in the combination between parenthood and her work. We also wanted to see if there was a connection between mothers stress and the children's stress. The method used was qualitative investigation. Eight mothers, one curator and one social-psychologist were interviewed. - The historical development has created new conditions for women. Today is the woman expected to do good both with her children and at her work. The purpose of this essay was to examine if the woman feel stress in the combination between parenthood and her work. We also wanted to see if there was a connection between mothers stress and the children's stress. The method used was qualitative investigation. Eight mothers, one curator and one social-psychologist were interviewed. The theoretical frame of reference was based upon three theories: Anthony Giddens late society, the ontological security and ecological system theory. Our essential questions were: Does the woman feel stress in the combination between motherhood and her work? What are the other causes for women feeling stressed? Is there a connection between the mothers stress and her children's stress? Our conclusions were that stress may occur in combination between parenthood and work. The working hours and the possibility to combine motherhood with work seemed to be very important. One of the most distressing factor was how children felt in school when mothers worked. We also found that stress which women felt were transferred to the children and that stress that children felt was transferred to the mother. (Less)
