- Abstract
- In this thesis-project I set out to write an overview of the discourse on poverty, with a selected number of international institutions and other representatives from three main camps portrayed. This is a debate which has been very much in focus lately. I did this by focusing on three parameters which can be found within the discourse: Market economy/Capitalism - Politics/Culture External - Internal factors Development - Underdevelopment (backwardness) In order to connect the present to the past I started out describing the main schools of thought and the outlines of the discourse on the same issue in the 1960s and 1970s. While describing the present I then tried to refer to arguments presented in this earlier discourse. I accomplished my objective through studying available literature presenting the different representatives and their views. In the end I came to the conclusion that the views differ greatly but very many of the arguments centered around the parameters above are similar to the ones heard in the 1970s. (Less)
