These special LSU-departments duty is to take care, treat and look after the juveniles and at the same time, protect society from them by keeping them locked up. This composition is about how the staff and the juveniles experience the time they spend in a LSU-department. The purpose of this composition was to find out what LSU is and what it means, and how the staff and the juveniles experience the care and the treatment. We also wanted to find out if the institution use special methods and programs to change the juveniles criminal behaviours. The framing of the questions was: - What is LSU? - What is it like, at a LSU-department? - Does the juveniles get any help to alter their behaviour, or do they just think that they are under punishment and preventive detention in prison? - How do the staff experience the treatment of the juveniles? By reading adequate literature and by making interviews with three juveniles and four members of the staff from Åsbogården at Råby Ungdomshem in Lund, we came to the conclusion that they use methods and programs that modern research find effective in treatment of juvenile criminals. Another conclusion we came to was how life can be when you are at a LSU-department and how both the juveniles and the staff experience the care and the treatment. (Less)
