The purpose of this study is to reflect over the situation for women within the jazzscene. Manyfemale instrumentalist in the past have been forgotten. Why is that? The lack of female pioneers is one of the reasons why so few girls specialize in an instrument within the genre of jazz music. Another conclusion from this study, is that quality and skills, almost always are compared with male musicans. An enhanced gender awareness within the genre, could hopefully lead to more young women
starting to play jazz.
Syftet med denna studie är att reflektera över hur situationen för kvinnor inom jazz- och improvisationsmusik ser ut idag. Många kvinnliga instrumentalister genom tiderna har fallit i glömska. Men vad beror detta på och vad kan göras för att nå en jämlikare fördelning mellan kvinnor och män som utövar musik inom jazz- och improvisationsmusik? Uppsatsens underlag består av intervjuer med totalt fyra professionella jazz- och improvisationsmusiker. Samtliga kvinnor med flera års yrkeserfarenhet i branschen. Resultatet av studien visar att barn och ungdomar påverkas av föräldrar, lärare, idoler och andra personer i sin omgivning i fråga av val av instrument och musikstil. Bristen på kvinnliga förebilder är en av orsakerna till varför det idag finns så få tjejer som specialiserar sig på att spela instrument inom jazz- och improvisationsmusik. En annan slutsats från den här studien, är att kvalité och kunnande, nästan alltid jämförs med manliga musiker. En ökad genusmedvetenhet inom genren kan förhoppningsvis leda vidare till att allt fler unga tjejer söker sig till att börja spela jazz. (Less)
