- Abstract
- The Stockholmprogramme was recently adopted by the European Council. In a five-year period the focus of EUs work should be in the area of justice and security. Human rights defenders has criticized the European Union for promoting the security of the Union before human rights. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the contradictions in the Stockholmprogramme about the right to seek asylum and why these occur.
By investigating the Stockholmprogramme and following the modern refugee debate the result has shown that the European identity prevent possibilities for refugee protection when universal human rights is put against national interest to defeat terrorism.
