- Abstract
- The purpose of this paper was in the light of theories of violence and threats in
care, examine how they in staff groups of LSS assisted living facilities perceive
and deal with violence and threats. More specified we qualitatively examined how
they in staff groups from two LSS assisted living facilities in southern Sweden
handle threats and violence. The paper is based on structured focus group
interviews where we have allowed staff members to discuss in advance elected
questions about threats and violence. The groups have not been greater than six

data, where we have summarised the answers from the respondents in various
themes. In our summary analysis, we then made own conclusions with the help of
earlier research and answers from the respondents. It was found that there was a
great deal of threats and violence in their workplaces. This was considered to
depend mainly on misplaced users which the staff considered belong to the
psychiatry. We concluded that the staff had confidence in their acquired
knowledge on how to deal with violent users. One reason was that they learned
from their mistakes. We also came to the conclusion that the tolerance in the staff
groups for the violence that occur is greater in their work than what one might
assume it is in other everyday contexts.
