- Abstract
- In this master's thesis I analyse how partially changing ideas and procedures regarding democracy can be incorporated into local politics. I argue that you can see a development of a democracy policy field, democracy politics, in Sweden, where politicians introduce initiatives with the aim of involving citizens in decision-making processes. For the purpose I have conducted semi-structured interviews with five politicians and two civil servants. My analysis and results show that new digital technology has played a very important role in the process; there has been an interest in investigating how the Internet can be used as a means of communication between citizens and politicians. New technology was coupled with a perception of traditional representative democracy performing poorly and being in need of a boost, which resulted in the realisation of the projects. (Less)
