Abstract
The aim of the current study was to examine the relation between self-efficacy, sense of coherence and general mental health in unemployed individuals. The study was based on Antonovsky’s concept sense of coherence and Bandura’s concept of self-efficacy. A questionnaire was constructed based on the SOC scale, the general self-efficacy scale and the general health questionnaire. The sample consisted of 217 unemployed individuals who were all members of the Swedish organization Trygghetsrådet. The results indicated that self-efficacy and SOC are highly correlated with general mental health, where SOC was the main contributor to the explained variance in general mental health.
