Abstract
For the design of a building, you must take into account a range of parameters. These parameters often differ from place to place. It is common that each building be designed with regards to weather, purpose and its useful life expectancy. When a material or a structural unit is subjected to external influences, changes occur, for example deflections. Each IKEA-store, with their various components, are subjected to this change, be it beams, pillars or both. For the design of a building, you must take into account a range of parameters. These parameters often differ from place to place. It is common that each building be designed with regards to weather, purpose and its useful life expectancy. When a material or a structural unit is subjected to external influences, changes occur, for example deflections. Each IKEA-store, with their various components, are subjected to this change, be it beams, pillars or both. The layout and structure of the different department stores vary between both buildings and countries. For example, some of the IKEA-buildings may have a parking lot on the roof or in the basement; others buildings lack parking all together and have instead solved the parking problem by building a parking garage on the side of the building. Methods of setting up the load bearing systems differ, this is mainly due to the fact that some countries have not caught up to western technology or standards. In these countries, construction methods and therefore construction times are lagging in comparison to their western counter parts; for example when it comes to spot casting. The implications of these different building methods include the quantity of materials required during construction, and naturally the prolonged time aspect. Comparisons between countries indicate that the IKEA-buildings volume is subjected to differences depending on the building method used. Therefore our conclusion is that place casting results in a thinner construction, but lengthens the construction time. To achieve the slimmest design, the building should have the Swedish solutions for beams and joists, because they give the thinnest constructions. In theory, it is possible to combine different solutions to optimize the thickness even more. (Less)
